Return to Work Services

Return to work services are structured and goal-oriented, aimed at maximizing the client’s ability to return to work. These services benefit both the employer and employee and can help reduce the amount of time away from the workplace.

Prevention Services

Working with employers, Eastern Rehabilitation offers a number of prevention services designed to educate workers and prevent injuries. Our therapists have expertise in developing the following programs:

  • Train the Trainer
  • Back Education
  • Job Site Analysis Databases and Libraries
  • Post-off Pre-employment screening

We have a number of other prevention services and can adapt our programs to address the specific needs of your workers.

Job Site Visits

An Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist may complete a job site visit at the pre-accident workplace. During these visits all stakeholders are present to ensure accurate and comprehensive findings.

Job site visits are important in determining pre-accident job demands, the need for alternate arrangements or modifications and any potential barriers to return to work. The employer and employee relationship is re-established and both parties can benefit from the support of our therapist.

Job Site Analysis

A job site analysis is used to document the physical requirements of an employee in performing his/her job duties. This procedure examines specific duties and conditions of a particular job and is important in the provision of return to work services. Job site analysis can assist in determining whether or not an injured worker can safely return to work, can identify other concerns or risks and help develop additional injury management programs.

Transitional Work Plans

Transitional work plans are customized plans to re-integrate the client back into the workplace after an absence due to injury or illness. These plans reduce time away from the workplace and ensure the client is safely returned to productive and meaningful work.

Ergonomic Assessments

Ergonomics is the study of the design of work in relation to the capabilities of people. Put simply, ergonomics is concerned with ensuring the job fits the worker, rather than physically forcing the worker’s body to fit the job.

From prevention and health promotion, to assisting in the design and implementation of return to work programs, ergonomics is a crucial part of our services.

Vocational Assessment

Vocational Assessments are administered by Occupational Therapists with clients who are unable to perform the physical demands of their pre-injury job. By considering the client’s aptitude, academic abilities, education, previous work history, interests and present physical tolerances, these assessments can determine alternate career choices for injured workers.

In addition to providing this information, vocational assessments also attempt to provide clients with basic information on the labour market and the types of work available in the local area.

Transferable Skills Analysis

Transferable skills analysis are used to determine occupations that have similar skills to those of occupations that the client have preformed in the past. This analysis is beneficial in the return to work process as it can help clients transition from one occupation to another.

Prevention, job site visits, job site analysis, transitional work plans, ergonomic assessments, vocational assessments and transferable skills analysis are all examples of the return to work services offered by Eastern Rehabilitation.
