Occupational Therapy Services
Occupational Therapy is a diverse profession focused on promoting health and well being through occupation. Therapists within this profession perform a variety of tasks aimed at rehabilitating clients and helping organizations manage their injury programs.
Within the Eastern Rehabilitation network, our Occupational Therapists work collaboratively with businesses/insurance companies and their employees/clients. Our services can be sub-divided into Specialized Occupational Therapy Services and Work Re-integration Services. Both are overseen by the Director of Disability Management.
Work Re-Integration Services
Occupational Therapists assist in bridging the gap between the injured client and the workforce. This is completed through functional assessments, client-specific occupational rehabilitation programs, education, analysis of job demands and ergonomic assessments.
Therapists also work with employers to reduce the severity and frequency of injuries within the workplace. This is completed through customized training programs and prevention services.
Complete information on these programs can be found under our Return to Work Services section.
Specialized Occupational Therapy Services
Within the Eastern Rehabilitation network Certified Hand Therapists and Occupational Therapists are specialized in the area of Hand Assessment, Splinting and Home Visits.
Hand Assessment
A Hand Assessment is a standardized assessment, administered by an Occupational Therapist, which documents hand function in the areas of strength, range of motion, sensation, fine and gross dexterity. Results are compared to standardized norms and related to activities of daily living and vocation. This assessment is summarized in an easy to read report and, where applicable, recommendations are made for treatment.
Splinting
The fabrication of customized splints may be required for the treatment of specific medical conditions. These include conditions such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Arthritis. Often with the use of these splints, employees can return to normal daily activities, including their job duties.
Home Visits
Home Visits are conducted to determine a client’s level of independence and safety in activities of daily living (washing, dressing, feeding and toileting). These visits may also involve the teaching of new techniques or the implementation of assistive devices to increase safety and/or independence.
